Glass Tubes
Glass tubes are concave shaped pieces of glass and are normally used for laboratory work purposes. These hollow shaped glass pieces are available in many different sizes with regards to their length and thickness. Usually the tubes are manufactured from clear glass. These tubes are often very light weight and at the same time easily breakable.
Although, glass tubes are easily breakable but still they cannot be easily cut with scissors. A special diamond cutter is needs to cut these tubes in a perfect manner. These tubes can be easily bent with the help of heating. There are many notable and important uses which are associated with these tubes. In laboratories these tubes are usually used to hold solid or liquid products or sometimes used to perform chemical reactions while mixing chemicals together in a glass tube. The shape of the tube is more or less the same but it can vary in terms of length, thinness or thickness of the glass and diameter of the tube as well.
Glass tubes are regarded as the one of the most basic products manufactured under the glasswork productions. The use of a glass tube varies from commercial to industrial purposes. These tubes function in variety of ways like in the pharmaceutical industry tubes can be used as containers like; syringes small bottles etc for the purpose of holding liquids and soli materials. Other than that, many laboratory equipments are regarded as tubes like; pipettes, burettes, cylinders, etc. Control equipments like; alcohol measurer and dosimeters are also regarded as glass tubes.
Industrial thermometers and normal domestic thermometers also consist of glass tubes. Other than that the tubes are also required for the manufacturing of neon or fluorescent light bulbs, incandescent light bulbs, etc. It depends on the diameter and thickness of the tube which determines which tube could be used to full fill which purpose. Usually tubes with large diameter and substantial thickness are used widely on industrial scale.
On the other hand, small tubes fulfill some other purposes and among those are for the production of jewelry pieces like necklaces. Glass tubes are manufactured from various different types of glasses. Therefore, the chemical and physical properties of tubes differ from each other depending upon what type of glass is used to manufacture the tube.
The use of these tubes also depends upon the material of the tube. One type of glass which is used to manufacture a tube is the lead glass. Usually lead tube is used for the production of filament holders used for neon and incandescent bulbs. Another type of glass is the soda calcium glass which is commonly used for manufacturing laboratory equipment, dosimeters, fluorescent light bulbs and thermometers.
Glass tubes made with the borosilicate glass are used for producing pharmaceutical and laboratory use equipments like; beakers, containers, syringes, etc. Certain Laboratory equipments require high thermal resistance and resistance to concentrated chemicals as well. For this reason, such laboratory equipment is made of Pyrex which is a type of borosilicate glass but with high resistance to chemicals and thermal changes. Other than that, quartz glass is used to manufacture tubes which are extremely resistant to high temperatures.
Other than clear glass tube, you will also find colored one. The colored ones are manufactured as they full fill various purposes. For instance, colored tubes are sometimes used as pharmaceutical equipment in order to save the content of the tube or container for absorbing harmful luminous rays which the content would have otherwise absorbed in the presence of clear tubes. Usually a yellow brown glass is used to manufacture the colored tubes as yellow brown glass has a very neutral nature. Iron sulphide acts as the dye for giving these tubes a yellow brown color. Other purpose of these glass tubes is to give a colored light source to the contents of the tube,
Hence, it can be said that glass tubes have multiple functions associated with them on industrial, commercial and also domestic levels. You can find different sized and shaped tubes and besides that the thickness and thinness of the glass varies as well according to the type of glass used while manufacturing the tubes.
Other than that, these tubes are available in colors as well and the colored tubes full fill various different purposes. These tubes are regarded as essential laboratory equipment as they are frequently used for the purpose of carrying out various scientific experiments. Besides being essential laboratory equipment they are also regarded as essential pharmaceutical equipment.
